ROMA ITALIAN DELI & GROCERY, 918 NORTH LAKE AVENUE AT MOUNTAIN
Here are a couple of historic photos from Roma Italian Grocery from the 1950's when it was located in an old house at the same location where it is located today, albeit in a more modern building.
Truly Pasadena was the master in home-front businesses. I remember when the original La Estrella was in front of an old Victorian (that was moved a few blocks away).
One of my many noms de guerre used over the years. My actual Roman name is Vallus Armadura, however after the sacking of Rome by the Vandals I now go by the Goth version of the name, Thal Armathura. My family name is unusual in that it can be traced back to the Domesday Book of 1086 and is found in the church records in a village of Normandy before 1066 and earlier still in what was known as Roman Palaestina. I am a long time member of the Antiquus Arcanus Ordo Rosæ Rubeæ et Aureæ Crucis (AAORRAC), which translates in English to Ancient and Secret Order of the Red Rose and of the Golden Cross, the successor to the mystery schools or secret schools of learning established in Egypt during the joint reign of Pharaoh Thutmose III and Hatshepsut, about 1500 B.C.E. They united the Priesthoods of Egypt into a single Order under the leadership of Hatshepsut's Vizier, Hapuseneb. Each Temple had its associated Per Ankh (House of Life) where the Mysteries were handed down.In uniting the Priesthoods, the Per Ankhu were also united. These schools were formed to probe into "the mysteries of life" — natural phenomena, and initiatic spirituality, this knowledge spreading worldwide over centuries.
